Process service is more than document delivery. It requires service attempts that follow the applicable instructions and rules, plus a factual return or affidavit documenting the result. The requesting party or attorney remains responsible for selecting the proper service method and tracking legal deadlines.
Information to provide at submission
- Complete, file-ready documents and any summons, notice or attachments to be served together.
- The court, case number, parties and client reference number.
- The recipient’s full legal name, description and known relationship to the address.
- Every known residential, business or alternate address, including unit and access details.
- The deadline, priority level and any court- or client-specific instructions.
- Safety information and a contact authorized to answer time-sensitive questions.
Communication throughout the assignment
Lack of communication should never leave a client guessing. Magnolia Metro uses the request number to keep each assignment organized and provides email updates at meaningful stages.
- Intake confirmation when the assignment is received and reviewed.
- Status updates after attempts or when an address, access or instruction issue needs attention.
- Completion documentation when service is completed or the authorized attempt cycle ends.
Attempt procedure
- Match the address, recipient and documents to the Magnolia Metro request number.
- Approach the location professionally and document the date, time and observable facts.
- Follow the authorized service instructions without misrepresentation or unnecessary disclosure.
- Record a successful handoff, refusal or unsuccessful attempt using objective language.
- Escalate conflicting instructions or material address information before changing course.
Return and affidavit procedure
When the assignment requires proof, the server prepares a return or affidavit stating the relevant service facts. The document should identify what was served, whom it was served on, when and where the event occurred, and the method used. Notarization is included when required by the applicable form or procedure.
Mississippi service rules vary by document and recipient
Personal, residential substitute, corporate, governmental, minor, incarcerated-person, subpoena and eviction matters can involve different requirements. Do not assume a method that worked for one document is valid for another. Review the current Mississippi Rules of Civil Procedure and obtain legal guidance when needed.
Questions to ask before submitting

- Is personal service required, or is another method authorized?
- What is the actual service deadline?
- Does the court or client require a particular return or affidavit?
